Catching Kayla- Inspiration for Everyone

I hope to inspire the children I teach to never give up and install a positive attitude to problem solve when faced with challenges. As life is not one smooth ride, we must prepare children with the tools for success. This is an inspiration for me as a teacher, as a member of society and as a person. I hope to strive to be more like this girl and her coach in all I do. Nothing but inspiration.

Evil Stick- A child’s toy that is being sold in the US WARNING!!!!!!!!! Viewer discretion is advised!!!

First I would like to warn anyone who is going to watch this video. It is not a horror flick or something raunchy but there is an image that still haunts me to this day every time I think about this toy. This is a toy that was found in a dollar store in the US. Seeing and knowing things like these are out in the world makes me concerned, for our children, and our humanity. What toy company in their right mind thought this was ok? Why would the store owner not think to take this off the shelves? What is happening to this world we live in?!?!?!?!?!?

We are born with the ability to love- hate is something that is taught

I found this video on YouTube about kids reacting to the cheerios commercial that spark debate over the media. The commercial features a interracial family in its ad. Watching this video made me cry. Not only because of what the kids said, but the fact that hate, and intolerance are taught. I cry for my kids sometimes because I hoped the world they came into would be a beautiful place. But it seems like every time we move forward one space, we go back 4 more. I cry because we live in a society that is self absorbed, angry and selfish. I cry because there are children in this wold being hurt, abused and mistreated this very moment. I cry because we no longer value what comes from our hearts, but the clothes on our back. I cry because this world is so full of hate.

I have encountered, witnessed and to this very day still deal with ignorance, hate and racism. Im not going to lie sometimes its hard not to feel hurt, angry and want to retaliate, BUT I DONT.

As a parent, a RECE and a member of this community I vow to teach my children and all children I encounter the power of love, respect and acceptance. I vow to teach the skills one should posses to be a positive member of society. I vow to do my part, so that one day the future generations can finally live in harmony.

Technology- logging off

This video is about how technology has taken a toll on our connections with face-to-face people. And the fact that technology has created loneliness and a span of other issues ( ADD,introvert ism, etc.) As a RECE, this speaks to me. I believe that with the ever changing society/world we live in, it’s necessary to teach the up coming generations how to use technology to help expand their minds, skills and talents. However as an educator I believe it is also the educators responsibility to teach the upcoming generations how to “turn off” technology and how to make between human contact. As educators we need to plant the seed. We need to build and scaffold the skill of “turning off”. As educators, we need to teach children the importance of nature, exploration, communication and interaction, so that our future generations are not only technologically advanced, but humanistically advance as well. We as educators have the power of influence and knowledge, so why not use that to help create a better balanced community/ society.

Changing Times- We move Forward, Not behind!!!

Anyone who is from Mississauga, Ontario or has been to SQ1 will find this one interesting. I found this picture of square one, it was taken from a bird’s eye view about 40 years ago. Its amazing and scary (in a way), to see how we have progressed and things have changed. We are a race of innovation and constant progression. My hope for the future is that we progress enough to realize what we are doing to our planet earth and realize that earth is the only planet that can sustain life. We need to love and protect it, otherwise we just might be the creators of our destruction.
